Buda Juniors is an English-language, multi-national football club in Budapest, Hungary for children aged 4 to 19 years old. Run by Janos Banfi, a former Hungarian national team captain with 14 years experience of playing professional football and qualified with the UEFA coaching license, we play at Csilleberc in the Buda hills of the 12th district.

Tömegközlekedéssel: Take bus number 21 from Széll Kálmán tér (from the bus stop at the top of the stairs above the Metro) and get off two stops after Normafa (at the Csillebérc, Gyermekvasút stop). The buses come every 12-24 minutes - see the timetable. There is also a regular 21A bus (marked with a * on the timetable), which only goes to Normafa, from where you can then walk down Konkoly Thege Miklos út to Csillebérc (about 10 minutes).

Autóval: From 12th District: Déli Pályaudvar - Nagyenyed utca - Istenhegyi út - Eötvös út - Konkoly Thege Miklós utca

From 2nd District: Zugligeti út - Béla Király út - (under a bridge) - Istenhegyi út - Eötvös út- Konkoly Thege Miklós utca

Towards the top of the hill, there will be a water tower in the middle of the road. Stay on the main road and shortly afterwards, you will see the Olimpia Hotel followed by the Normafa Hotel on the left. At the Normafa Hotel, follow the main road around to the left. This is now Konkoly Thege Miklós utca. Csillebérc is down this road on the right, immediately after a railway crossing.

Janos Banfi

János played professional football for 14 years, appearing 25 times with the Hungarian national team, 8 of those times as captain. He played for Kispest Honved F.C. before signing with Belgian first division football team, Eendracht Aalst in January 1996. Following an injury in 1998, he retired from professional football in November 2000. He is qualified with a UEFA coaching licence. János regularly appears on television as a football commentator and speaks Hungarian and English.

Akos Horvath

Akos has been with Buda Juniors since May 2009. He started playing football when he was 7 and he has been a signed player since 1998. He is still playing football in HUngarian 4th division and he also participates in several hobby tournaments with other teams. Akos graduated "cum laude" from Pazmany Peter Catholic University in Budapest. He obtained the Master of Law degree in May 2010 and since then he has been working as an attorney in a law office. Even now you see less of him, he remains part of our coaching staff! He speaks Hungarian and English.

Andrew Leckonby

Andrew is a level 1 football coach and has been living in Budapest since 1999. He is mainly responsible for organising the activities for our youngest players (Groups 1 and 2), but also supports the coaching in all groups. Andrew was involved with setting up Buda Juniors and has been with us since the very start, September 2001. Originating from Adelaide, Australia, Andrew is a qualified pre-school teacher who has worked with young children in Australia, England, Italy and Hungary. He recently started a junior cricket club in Budapest called Bat and Ball. He speaks English and Hungarian.

Balazs Veress

Balázs started playing football at the age of 10 for Ferencváros Budapest and he is currently playing in the Hungarian 4th division. He has been at Buda Juniors since summer 2008. Balázs is qualified with UEFA coaching licence and graduated from Károli Gáspár University (law) in Budapest. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts in European Business Law degree in May 2010 at Abertay University of Dundee, Scotland. He speaks Hungarian, English and German.

Duncan Shoebridge

Duncan played football in Sussex and in Southampton, but a knee injury made him finish football at age 17. He moved to Hungary in May 2012 but before that he had plenty of experience training children in England. He worked as an assistant coach and goalkeeper trainer in youth football. Currently coach at Bat & Ball and Hungarian women’s and men’s cricket teams too. You see him with our youngest ones the most, but Duncan takes part in our older groups and trains our goalies. He speaks English.

Fruzsi Martonffy

Fruzsi played football at Buda Juniors during the 2003-2004 seasons and has rejoined the club now as trainer. She studied at Anderson University in the United States where she received her bachelor’s degree in Physical Education K-12. Fruzsi also played on the university women’s football team, qualifying as a Division 3 team. Currently she is teaching elementary physical education at Greater Grace International School. Having worked previously in Kindergarten, she is experienced with the little ones; constituting for her main role to be coaching our youngest players in Group 1 and 2.

John Murphy

John has been with Buda Juniors since the club began in September 2001. Born in Dublin, Ireland, he visited Budapest while backpacking around Europe in 2000 and is still here! John is a level 1 football coach and has experience coaching in the USA and Ireland besides his 12 years with Buda Juniors. He speaks English and after nearly ten years is reasonably adept in Hungarian!!! John is involved in the coaching from Group 1 through to Group 6, but his main role is being in charge of Group 4.

Yoshiaki Ikeda

" I'm Japanese. I used to play football for a long time in Tokyo, and after that I came to Hungary to study in Semmelweis medical university to be a sports doctor. I have experience of teaching football in some clubs from children to university level as a qualified coach. I can speak Japanese & English... "
